Police defuse four explosive devices discovered in a crowded market in a densely populated area of the capital Sana’a, early December 31.

Police said they found four explosive devices planted in Souk Ans, a large qat market, where many locals visit to buy their qat for the day.

The Defense Ministry’s website reported early morning that police had found four bombs “which after investigation proved to be full of dust”.

An explosives expert said he defused four devices found in the early morning. Speaking anonymously, the expert said he does not know the origin of the bombs or their maker but that they were professionally made.

Each device was professionally constructed to hold 1kg of explosives, according to the Forensic Explosives Division’s expert, with the lethal potential to kill at least 10 to 15 people.

“We have defused more than six explosive devices in Sana’a this year,” the expert said.

Yemen has witnessed a number of bombs planted in populated areas throughout the country over the past two years.
