In its weekly meeting on Tuesday, the Cabinet approved a set of measures presented by Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation to promote wheat farming in Yemen.
The plan involves the provision of soft loans to farmers in fertile areas worth an estimated YR1 billion, as well as the allocation of YR100 million for production equipment for the 2007-2008 agricultural season.
The Cabinet also authorized the ministries of agricultural and irrigation, finance, industry and commerce as well as local administrations and the Yemen Economic Corporation to buy crops from farmers in order to expand cereal farming.
