An exhibition of Malaysian higher education was launched in Sana’a this week. The exhibition featured relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Yemen in higher education and ways to strengthen them. The exhibition was held in the Sheba Hotel on April 23.
“Malaysia must strengthen its cooperation in high education with Yemen through the culture exchange and exhibitions between Yemeni and Malaysian universities,” said Ali Qasim Ismail, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research at the opening remarks of the exhibition titles the Malaysian Higher Education Exhibition 2008.
“The relationship between Yemen and Malaysia is not only exists; it is strong and as old as history,” Ismail said.
Ismail expressed his confidence in the level of education in Malaysian universities, stressing the need for increasing the number of scholarships to Yemeni students, especially in scientific fields and open joint study programs. Such programs are expensive now for Yemenis, but Ismail hopes thats costs will soon decrease.
He called on Malaysians investors to invest in higher education by opening the Malaysian universities in Yemen, allowing Yemeni students to attend these universities.
Malaysian Ambassador in Sana’a, Abdul Samad Othman, said that the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education is seeking to increase the proportion of students coming to study in Malaysia from 50,000 to 100,000 students by the beginning of the year 2010.
Othman explained that the exhibition is being held in Yemen for the sixth consecutive year. “Eight of oldest Malaysian universities participated in this exhibition and would provide education and environment study to the students, in addition to lower costs of living in Malaysia,” he said.
“This exhibition comes within the framework of the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education directives to the perpetrator promotion of the Malaysia State as educational ground in the market for global education,” said Dr. Azhar Saleh, head of the Malaysian Higher Education Delegation.
Saleh explained at his attendance to the expo, which will be held over two days in Sana’a, that Malaysia participated in many educational exhibitions on five continents to help the Malaysian educational institutions to attract foreign students to study at its universities.
“The education system in Malaysia advantage of high quality and recognized programs, in addition to lower costs of living and soft tuition fees,” he said expressing his happiness for a large number of Yemeni students’ scholars in Malaysia that totaled 1823 students.
The Malaysian Higher Education Exhibition will be held in the Mercure Hotel in Aden governorate on April 27 and 28.
