Minister of Tourism , Nabil al -Faqih, cutting the cake at Felix Airways launching ceremony
|
Last Wednesday, Felix Airways launched its new electronic site for tickets sales and checking through confidential travel agencies approved by the Ministry of Tourism. At the launching ceremony held in Sana’a’s Sheraton hotel, the Minister of Tourism, Nabil al-Faqih said that Felix Airways launch is considered as a good starting sign for the air transportation field in Yemen. He also expects it will present a bright image for what a patriotic Yemeni can do to serve his country particularly after Yemenia has quit its role of local air transportation provider in favor of Felix Airways.
Al-Faqih also hoped that the partners in the tourism and travel sector would offer support for the company so as to improve the level of services according to the vision that had been agreed upon by the two sides. Al-Faqih pointed out that there is an intention to cooperate with Felix Airways through signing an understanding memo that included promotion plans for the newly established company in collaboration with the Tourism Ministry.
He also pointed out that Felix Airways will be the main supporter of Yemenia which will focus on long range flights whereas Felix will focus on the domestic flights and carrying passengers of Yemenia from Sana’a and Aden airports to the other governorates.
However al-Faqih affirmed that domestic flights would not be monopolized by Felix Airways alone they rather would be open for other foreign companies in a way that would open up Yemen for all international airways ensuring flexibility between the world and Yemen. This same flexibility would also insure the continued growing tourism flow particularly with the neighboring countries.
The chairman of boards of directors of Felix Airways, engineer Mohammed Arashah briefed the attendants about the flights to be operated by the company from Sana’a and Aden airports to the other provinces. He said that Felix would fly four flights to al-Ghaytha weekly, 29 flights to Aden, seven to Hodeidah, seven to Soqotra, seven to Taiz, and 21 flights to al-Rayan airport in Hadramout governorate weekly.
He added that the company would begin its flights in October 2008 starting with three planes and that increasing to eight planes by August 2009. The capacity of each plane would be 72 passengers.
He also pointed out that there is a strategic partnership between the company and between the CACC Bank for marketing and selling the company’s services based on signed agreements by the two sides.
