Forty Ethiopians have died after their boat capsized off the Thobaba coastline in Taiz, the Ministry of the Interior said on Saturday.

According to the media office of the ministry, three Ethiopians who managed to reach the coastline of Thobaba said that forty of their countrymen perished after the boat carrying them capsized.

Security bodies have launched an investigation into the incident to gather further information. In spite of the risk, the ministry said that 22 Somalis, including 12 women recently landed safely on the same coastline.

Hundreds of Africans die every year trying to reach Yemen, with many drowning or being attacked by pirates and smugglers in the dangerous waters separating Somalia and the Arabian Peninsula.
