Total distributes 7,000 school bags in Hadramout; pledges to absorb more local employees

Based on a strong belief in human development through education in Yemen, Total E&P Yemen on October 6th 2008 launched the distribution of more than 7,000 school bags to students in Sah District, Hadramout Governorate. 

During the celebration, Mr. Martin Deffontaines, the General Manager of Total E&P Yemen, stated, “The school bags we are distributing today are small in size but very symbolic in value. Through this and other similar efforts, we will remain committed to helping our neighboring communities in the education sector.”

H.E. Mr. Giles Gauthier, Ambassador of France to Yemen, stressed in a speech he gave during this celebration that human development comes first. “It is only through human development that nations can move forward and develop economically as well,” he stated. 

In a speech given by H.E. Mr. Ahmed al-Gunaid, the Deputy Governor of Hadramout for Wadi and Desert Affairs, he appreciated the efforts being made by Total at different levels while operating in the region. Deputy Governor, al-Guneid renewed the Yemeni Governments full support for Total’s activities in Yemen.  In the celebration, Mr. Martin Deffontaines renewed Total’s commitment to local employment planning. Mr. Deffontaines has revealed that Total will aggressively pursue a plan in order to incorporate as many local employees as possible in its activities.

About Total E&P Yemen
Total E&P Yemen is the operator of Block 10, east of Shabwa and participates in several other projects dealing with oil exploration and production. Total is a major foreign investor in Yemen. Since 1997, the company has been producing from Block 10 and has celebrated early this year the production of 100 million barrels.
