The Ministerial Committee for Boosting Decentralization referred the National Strategy for Transformation to the cabinet for approval on Wednesday. This bill seeks to increase the amount of decision making taken by local governments.

The strategy will transform the existing system of local authority into a system of local governance with broader authority to carry out development projects. It is also hoped that this will increase the level of popular democracy as it will allow citizens greater access to decision makers in their areas. This process will increase the level of proportionality between financial resources and local duties and jobs.

The strategy aims to enhance the decision making infrastructure of local authorities, allowing them to realize their development goals and provide broader services to their citizens.

The Prime Minister insisted that the technical committee insert all remarks into the strategy during the meeting, and include them in the strategy project before referring it to the cabinet.

He indicated the necessity of taking into consideration the stepping doctrine while applying financial and administrative decentralization, noting that the strategy falls within the framework of carrying out the president’s electoral program.
