The Democratic School will implement next Tuesday in the district of Damt in al-Dhale province a workshop aimed at raising civil awareness particularly in the area of political rights among the youth.

The workshop will operate within the framework of the second phase of the project and would be implemented in collaboration with the International Foundation for Election Systems IFES, with funding from the UN Democracy Fund.

The second phase of the project will involve 200 youth trainees from the provinces of al-Dhale, Ibb, Dhamar, Hadhramout and the Secretariat Capital.

Head of the Democratic School Jamal al-Shami said the project would include seven workshops implemented in a number of districts in the target provinces as well as provisions to distribute publications on civil and political rights.

He noted that the project is designed to train youths in the principles of community participation, civil rights and responsibilities and ways to deal with local officials.

Every three-day workshop ends with proposed activities that would be implemented by participants later within the districts to demonstrate their understanding of topics related to voluntary and social work learned during the workshops and to show their interest in community participation. The second phase will take a month and a half to complete.
