Minister of the Interior Mutahar Rashad al-Masri held a meeting Saturday with the US ambassador to Sana’a Stephen Seche to discuss security cooperation between Yemen and the United States.

Al-Masri affirmed the importance of cooperation between the US and Yemen to enhance security and stability in both countries, especially the need to combat terrorism and organized crime.

For his part, the US ambassador highlighted the recent successes achieved by Yemeni security bodies in the fight against terrorism.

The Anti-Terror Unit of Yemen’s Central Security is the Interior Ministry’s best unit, Seche said

Press reports on Saturday said the US State Department had issued warnings to US diplomats in Yemen of potential terrorist threats, and has banned them and other government personnel from all Western hotels in Yemen.

Last Monday, the embassy said in a notice that it “continues to receive threats against embassies, Western hotels, and Western interests in Sana’a and Aden” and warned Americans to take additional security precautions.

“As a result of continuing threat information, the U.S. Embassy has placed all Western hotels in Yemen off limits to embassy personnel and visitors,” stated another notice on Friday attributed to the US embassy in Sana’a.

Meanwhile, the US Ambassador to Yemen Stephen Seche hailed Yemen’s efforts in fighting terrorism.  In a meeting with Minister of Interior Mutahar Rashad al-Masri on Saturday, Seche said the Anti-Terror Unit of the Central Security was a great achievement by the Interior Ministry.

The US ambassador praised security cooperation between Yemen and the United States.
