Customs foils 447 attempts to smuggle antiquities in 2008

Security Authorities have thwarted 447 attempts to smuggle various antiques from the country through the Sana’a International Airport in 2008, compared to 330 attempts in 2007. 

Director-General for the Protection of Antiquities and Cultural Properties at the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums Hisham al-Thawr said the antiquities were seized in about 50 foiled smuggling attempts. 

About 23 cases of trading and smuggling antiquities were submitted to the prosecution in 2007 – 2008.
