The creation of the third Yemeni Ba’ath party will be announced next week. The party consists of members sacked from the Iraqi National Bath party, and the Syrian Socialist Ba’ath party.  The individuals in question were fired over allegations of financial irregularities and political attitudes regarding their parties. In a release from Mohammed Abdullah al-Kibsi, a member of the preparatory committee, he said a preparatory committee of 35 people had been formed.  In addition, he added that over 236 people will attend the General Assembly. He said that the party will consist of sacked leaders from the two parties.

Abdulwhid Hawash, Deputy General Secretary of the National Arab Socialist Ba’ath party said the announcement about the formation of the new Ba’ath party came following a call by the leadership of the two parties for unification. The unification orders came from the higher leadership in Iraq and Syria.

This step will be followed by the unification of the party across the Arab world.  He went on to say that the new party will be called the Yemeni Democratic Ba’ath Party, meaning that it will be confined to Yemen and will not have links with broader Arab issues.

Hawash claimed this party is a Saudi-American financed party, which aims to undermine the unification of the Arab Bath Party in Yemen. He claims it intends to put an end to the Ba’ath party’s nationalistic, Arab oriented and combative attitudes.
