YEMEN - The Sana’a University staff and their assistant professors staged a protest event in front of the University’s headquarter. The university staff said that the stalling by the university presidency and the other responsible parties in the implementation of signed agreements with them regarding a number of issues related to educational imbalances, settling the issues of the deceased staff members as well as  the retiree issues made them carry out these protest events.

A statement issued by the staff pointed out that some of their demands were twenty five years old. The Higher Education Minister Dr. Saleh Ba Sura denied that his ministry is politicizing the university staff’s demands, ensuring that he stands with their demands and not against them, yet he invited them first to perform their duties and then link meeting their demands to performing the duties.

In a press conference, Ba Sura criticized those of the university staff who don’t perform their work perfectly and call for the raising of their salaries. He expressed his willingness to raise the salary of the teaching staff to a million riyals on the condition that they perform their duties perfectly, but on the other hand, he said that he won’t offer any increase to those who do not perform their duties.

He hoped that the staff members should not go to teach in the private universities without  their departments’ consent and within narrow limits, wondering how they can perform their duties under such conditions, reiterating that they should not only be demand submitters but also duties performers.
