YEMEN - An official report stated that 2,634 cases of Swine Flu were registered this week alone. 770 of which were confirmed cases and the other 1,864 had been in contact with confirmed cases.
In its weekly meeting, the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Ali Mujawar, reviewed a report presented by the Ministry of Public Health and Population on the developments of the H1N1 Flu outbreak.
The report delineated that 2,236 of the cases had fully recovered while 398 of the cases were still isolated and under treatment.
The report also gave the total number of registered cases in the world, which now amounts to more than 600,000 cases, according to a World Health Organization report released on November 13th.
The Health Ministry's report also outlined the surveillance measures that were in place at various levels. In addition, it discussed the ministry's efforts to control the epidemic and limit its spread, particularly in concentrated areas where it has appeared.
For example, on Tuesday almotamar.net reported that the ministry ordered the closure of a girl's high school in Sana'a last week, after it had been confirmed that one of the students had contracted the H1N1 virus.
Meanwhile, according to Health Minister Abdul Karim Rase'a, a private secondary school in Sana'a was also closed due to its failure to comply with the required precautionary measures against the virus.
Additionally the cabinet reviewed another report submitted by the Health Ministry regarding the results of the 20th meeting of the council for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) that was held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, from November 9th to the 11th.
