YEMEN - Since the commencement of military operations in Sa’adah City on Monday, the number of surrendered or captured suspected al-Houthi rebels has risen to ninety, thirty of whom are women, a security source embedded in Sa’adah confirmed on Saturday.

The estimated 400 rebels who remain in the northwest sector of Sa’adah are facing an increasingly pressing military blockade.

Until the national armed forces entered into Sa’adah’s old city on Monday, al-Houthi forces had controlled large swaths of the city.

The thirty captured women have been accused of collaborating with al-Houthi fighters. Local authorities detained the women in local hotels as they waited for their relatives to appear before government officials. With the submission of written letters of remorse and contrition, the women were released to their respective families.

The remaining men have been placed in state custody, and await further investigation, sources confirmed.

Army spokesman, Askar Zuel, and Deputy Minister of Interior, Mohammed al-Kawsi, continue to supervise the military operations in Sa’adah. Both have expressed their confidence in the present campaign, and expect the remaining rebels to surrender within twenty-four hours.

In related news, the military continues to advance along all major fronts, official army sources have confirmed. A weapons cache was discovered and destroyed in Muhdha, an area in the vicinity of Sa’adah city. Furthermore, rebel field leader Saeed Ali Mohammed Meftah was arrested in Harf Sufyan.

On Saturday, Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Querbi departed for Kuwait in order to deliver a letter from President Ali Abdullah Saleh to the Emir of Kuwait, detailing Yemen’s latest political developments.

Al-Querbi will be attending the GCC summit, held on the 14th and 15th of December, where he will debrief other delegates on the Yemeni situation.
