The General People’s Congress (GPC) accused the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) on Saturday of not compromising on agreements, specifically one proposed this month that postponed the 2009 parliamentary elections until 2011 and was signed by the GPC and the parties represented in the parliament.

The Deputy Chairman of the GPC, Dr. Abdulkarim al-Eryani affirmed that the JMP refused different proposals presented by the GPC. The latest proposal rejected was for preparing for the conference for the national dialogue, February 23 2009.

In a press conference held Saturday, Dr. al-Eryani revealed the proceedings of the meetings and dialogues held between the GPC and the JMP since April 2009.

Al-Eryani also reviewed the discussions that took place between the two sides during that period. He confirmed that the JMP tried to cancel its political legitimacy and to replace it by the so-called national consultancy committee, saying, “We were surprised that the JMP demands to sign with the so-called the consultation committee as a representative of the JMP.”

The Deputy Chairman of the GPC emphasized the keenness of his party on a continuation of the dialogue and said the minutes, suggested by the GPC, on the preparation of holding the national dialogue conference in implementation of February agreement is ready for signing today or tomorrow.

The minutes included a suggestion of forming a joint committee to prepare for the comprehensive national dialogue conference composed of equal number from the GPC and its allies and the JMP represented in the parliament and their allies.
