President Ali Abdullah Saleh received the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Middle Eastern Affairs, Jeffery Feltman. During the meeting Feltman transferred a message from President Barack Obama, president of the United States of America, which addressed bilateral relations and areas of joint cooperation between the two friend countries.
The United States has affirmed its support for Yemeni unity, considering unity to be an important element leading to the success and stability of the area. In addition, the United States has also continued to expresses their ongoing support of Yemeni counter terrorism measures. Particularly, the US has emphasized their determination to provide assistance for Yemen through the Group of Friends of Yemen, a meeting of which that will be held at the end of the month in Germany.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed aspects of bilateral relations and areas of cooperation at various levels. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State praised the cooperation between the two countries and Yemen’s exertion of in anti-terrorism maneuvers. The Secretary likewise lauded the decisions taken by the president that assisted to the cessation of military operations in Sa’adah.
Secretary Feltman, in a move that is sure to please many within Yemen, described the United States’ commitment to leave Yemen’s internal issues to Yemeni authorities, in order to protect security, stability and unity, and respecting the autonomy of the nation.
The President Ali Abdullah Saleh expressed the nation’s thanks for the support offered by the United States. He particularly emphasized the positive bilateral relations and areas of joint cooperation between the two friendly nations.
The meeting was attended by the Political Advisor of the president, Dr. Abdul-Kareem al-Iryani, Yemeni Ambassador to the United States, Abdul-Wahab al-Hegri, Member of Parliament, Mohammed Abdul-Lat al-Qadhi, and the American Ambassador in Sana’a, Stephen Seche.
