Heavy rains hit Shabwa governorate recently, where Markha directorate received the majority of the storm, causing flooding within three villages. The villages hit hardest were al-Salba, al-Aala and Beer al-Taweel.

The storm also reached Dhamar governorate, where flash floods blocked roads leading to al-Husienia. Reports claim that the heavy rain caused impasses throughout the roads, disrupting traffic and making any crossings impossible.

Abdulkareem al-Nahari, Deputy Director of the Yemeni News Agency Saba, has clamed that these reports are highly exaggerated by the media in an effort to sensationalize the stories.

“I am willing to confirm that there was some damage to the road that leads to al-Husienia. But all reports by media outlets that the damage was catastrophic or widespread are misled. The minister of Public Works and Highways, several other ministry undersecretaries from Dhamar and I toured the sections of flooding, especially the areas where the road has been temporarily shut down,” said al-Nahari. “The minister has ordered repairs on several retaining walls and drain torrents. However,” he added, “the damage was localized and small. It will be fixed immediately.”
