Sheikhs, mediators and passionate citizens of Dhamar and Ibb converged in a collective display of their desire to see justice carried through on Friday, March 13, 2010. The demonstrations resulted in response to the ongoing investigation into the death of Salah al-Ra’wi who was killed while in government custody on October 14, 2007. Accusations have been leveled towards individuals from Dhamar, Hadda Directorate.

The case has been expanded to include the two provinces of Dhamar and Marib, due to the nature of the offense. Parliament has formed a committee in order to follow-up on the legal proceedings. For the past three years, antagonists from both tribes have continued to complicate the issue; the possibility of compromise was further exacerbated last year as the conflict elevated, leading to the abduction of private citizens.

The House of Peace, led by Sheikh Ali Quid Saleh Al-Shahri, member of Supreme Council of Dar as-Salaam Organization, called upon each other for resolving this problem. The House of Peace included a number of sheikhs, among them Sheikh Abdul Malik Mansour, Abdulwahid Salah, Mohammed Hamoud al-Rasas, Abdulaziz Hubaish, Qasem al-Ansi, General Mohammed Shaie from Ibb Governorate, a number of sheikhs from Dhamar including Sheikh Fadl al-Ansi, Mohammed Ahmed al-Kulibi and others.

The joint efforts of the Dar as-Salaam Organization committees in the two governorates have continued to be intensified as efforts have been made to contain the entire issue.

On Friday January 13, 2010, the problem was momentarily contained when several of the tribal leaders of Hadda, along with about 800 people, arrived in Ibb along with 15 head of cattle. More than 2,000 people in Ibb, headed by Sheikh Ali Qaid al-Shahiri and several other sheikhs, hosting all the guests, have received them. The sheikhs from Hadda committed to abide by the ruling of paying YR 22,000,000 as blood money to al-Ra’wi family, including any other consequent disadvantages. The case was ended with a pardon, acceptance and shaking of hands.
