The Art of Living workshop was held in the Taj Sheba hotel, from 7-12 of March.
“Calm the Mind Through Breathing & Meditation Techniques,” this was motto of this workshop sponsored by Majendra Kapoor. Kapoor began teaching a few friends, eventually teaching more and more individuals who were interested, until the entire event became public.
The workshop aims to reduce stress, improve overall health and wellness, heighten enthusiasm, improve self-esteem and enhance interpersonal skills through instruction on methods of dealing with stress through the use of breath.
“Art of living comes before the science of living,” said Kapoor, the instructor and founder of the workshop. He added, “I want the participant to become an instructor, eventually helping others use proper breath.”
Abdul Razaq al-Ward, a music student, heard about the workshop from his friend and was enthusiastic at the prospect of practicing yoga. “I have always read about yoga and meditation, but the reading wasn’t enough. I joined as soon as heard of it,” al-Ward said. He added that since he began participating, he stopped smoking and became more relaxed and friendly person.
His friend Kamal agreed and added that he learned about it from his wife. Kamal said, “I had had troubles with smoking and energy drinks, but now I have stopped.”
The workshop included breathing exercises, meditation and other relaxation exercises. Other activities encouraged the participants to be children again, such as running, laughing and jumping. A participant named Tamara said that the exercises teaches the participant to begin with themselves, then eventually passing the knowledge they have to others they come in contact with.
Dina Mahioub heard of the workshop through her colleagues. She had so much stress at work; she basically joined the workshop just for relaxation. However, upon taking part in the courses, she said that it was more then just an exercise for relaxation; it was a method of life.
Chandramouli, the second secretary of the Indian embassy, was among the participants. He had already joined similar workshops, and he believes that Yoga and meditation are not bound to any certain religion, but is for all humanity.
The organization “Art of Living” has been holding similar workshops in 150 countries involving millions of participants. Yemen has become the 151 participating country.
