Ministry of interior has instructed security bodies and Coast Guard authority on Tuesday to tighten security measures around oil and marine facilities, stressing securing the shipping lanes of the oil tankers to counter any possible terrorist attacks as revenge by al-Qaeda's offshoot in Yemen, reported the ministry, after it had launched several attacks on al-Qaeda members .
The ministry ordered the security bodies in the provinces of Shabwa, Abyan, Aden, Hadramout, Taiz, and Hodeidah to double monitor surveillance of the coastal strip to seize any suspicious boats that may be used by terrorist members to wreak revenge.
Security Information Center (SIC), of the interior ministry, said that security had recently launched about 40 attacks against al-Qaeda members, the last of which targeted on Monday a terrorist cell planning for terrorist act in the mountain of Geezah village, Abyan province where three leaders of al-Qaeda were killed.
SIC said that the attacks forced al-Qaeda to hide in areas almost empty of population and that security now was able to isolate them in Abyan, Shabwa, Marib and other provinces.
A series of small explosions hit Yemen's main southern city of Aden late on Monday, prompting a heavy deployment of government troops, a local official told Reuters on Tuesday.
