The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) met its partners of NGOs to discuss the outputs of the preparatory meeting held from the period of the 26th to 28th of April.

The meetings will aim to come up with a clear vision of the partnership mechanism and the enhancement of coordination and cooperation within Yemeni NGOs. The conference of Yemen NGOs Collaboration Initiative was conducted by the Youth Leadership Development Foundation (YLDF) represented by Girls World Communication Center in cooperation with (NED).

The aim of the conference was to build a solid cooperation between Yemen’s NGOs in order to come up with a clear and unified vision for the Yemeni civil society organizations.

Rahman Aljebouri, the NED’s Senior Program Officer for Middle East and North Africa, said that there are efforts being made by Yemeni NGOs and yet individually. Aljebouri made it clear that most of NGOs in Yemen were established in response to the attitudes of some Supporting International Organizations and thus do not reflect the reality of Yemen.

“Our support will not be restricted to some famous organizations; we will support whichever organization that has a program to implement, which identifies what will enhance a real development in Yemen,” Aljebouri said.

As a part of its support to Yemen, NED-a multi-national organization- will share its experiences in several parts of the world, including Iraq, with Yemeni NGOs in the hope NED’s partners in Yemen will benefit and try to try to build their capacity.

Hillary, a consultant to NED, said that there are no fixed ways to be followed in order to enhance the NGOs collaboration in Yemen; there will be various ideas, either from Yemenis or those of other countries in which NED has actively been there.

There will be a financial support as will for the programs NED feels they work toward building a real development for Yemen.

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a private, nonprofit foundation dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world. Each year, with funding from the US Congress, NED supports more than 1,000 projects of non-governmental groups abroad who are working for democratic goals in more than 90 countries.
