Yemen, Syria sign 14 cooperation agreements

The 10th session of the Yemeni –Syrian Higher Committee concluded last Monday with the singing of 14 documents including cooperation agreements, programs and protocols.

The 10th session of the Joint Committee started its meetings in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a on Saturday evening co-chaired by Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otri and Yemeni counterpart Ali Mohammed Mujawar.

Otri stressed that the committee’s meeting , over the past years, has developed strong foundations for building cooperation relations, saying that these foundations were reinforced by many agreements and memos that reflected the two countries’ desire and insistence on enhancing cooperation.

He added that the meeting in Sana’a is a clear indication on our interest in boosting the mutual cooperation in all domains and upgrading it to serve both countries’ people through developing trade exchange mechanisms, activating the role of businessmen and the private sector in the economic development, establishing agricultural, economic and investment partnerships, in addition to cooperation between Syrian and Yemeni establishments in carrying out projects in various fields.

The Premier noted that cooperation in the economic, financial and banking sectors must be crowned by a broader cooperation system that includes other vital sectors.

Otri said this meeting has a special importance for the development of situations in the Arab arena, particularly in the occupied Palestinian territories, which necessitates coordination, consultation, solidarity and joint Arab action to crystallize a unified Arab stance to confront the current challenges against Israel’s greed and its racist and hostile policies.

He noted Syria’s efforts, under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, to unite the nation’s stances and bring its sons together, emphasizing the importance of Arab solidarity and economic integration in the face of international economic blocs,”

“Syria stresses its keenness on achieving security, stability and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, and urges the international community to deter Israel and put an end to its racist practices, stop its settlement projects and attempts to control Jerusalem and its continued attacks on sanctities,” Otri said.

Otri urged the international community to pressure Israel to comply with the international legitimacy resolutions, requirements of the just and comprehensive peace in accordance with land-for-peace principle, Madrid terms of reference, and the content of Arab initiative.

He also called for pressuring Israel to stop its criminal practices against our people in the occupied Syrian Golan, fully withdraw from the occupied Arab territories including the occupied Syrian Golan, the rest of the occupied Arab territories in Palestine and Lebanon to the June 4 1967 line and to guarantee the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, mainly the right of return and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Otri stressed Syria’s continued support for the unity, security and stability of Yemen.

He renewed Syria’s strong condemnation of Israel’s attack on Lebanon and its continuous violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence in a flagrant violation of UN Security Council resolution No. 1701.

The Premier touched upon the historic visit of President al-Assad and Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz to Lebanon to assert the commitment to the security and stability of Lebanon.

Otri stressed Syria’s support to the reconciliation process in Iraq, underlining the necessity of implementing the resolution on the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.

 Mujawar said that the 10th session of the Syrian-Yemeni Higher Committee clearly reflects the extent of the rapid development of the bilateral relations between Syria and Yemen, and also confirms the common desire to strengthen relations and push them towards wider horizons to meet the aspirations and ambitions of the two peoples.

He stressed the importance of such meetings and the continuous communication and exchange of visits between officials of the two countries at all levels.

The two sides reviewed the outcome of the preparatory committee meetings and the topics as well as documents on cooperation in all domains which were prepared to be submitted to Syrian-Yemeni Higher Committee meetings.
