Anwar al-Awlaki, the U.S.-born cleric, in an internet video has called for Jihad against the Yemeni government as well as encouraging the killing Americans in condemnation of “a U.S. policy being implemented by the Yemeni government.”

In a 23-minute video recording posted on Jihadist forums Monday, al-Awlaki condemned Yemeni clerics for their silence concerning the military operation in the southern parts of Yemen- Al-Dalea’, Aden, Lahj, and Hadramout, saying that some tribes, such as al-Hatteek in Marib province, were shelled. He said that an Australian woman, held last June for her suspected links to al-Qaeda, was an affiliate with an educational institution of Yemeni clerics who, according to Awlaki, have good relations with Yemeni government but that they did not intervene on the woman’s behalf.

Al-Awlaki said that Mujahedeen who have gone through wars and battles are more capable than current Arab rulers to guard and protect their nations.

“Our brothers of the al-Shabab al-Mujahideen Movement in Somalia have demonstrated their competence in managing the affairs of the country according to Islamic law, and the Taliban in Afghanistan are teaching the most powerful army in the world [America] – whom our rulers put their trust in to defend them - lessons in resistance and maneuvering, and whenever Americans came up with a plan, Taliban were able to overcome it.”

Al-Awlaki condemned Arab state rulers as lacking in character.

“ Today, the Muslims are going through a critical juncture and a crucial stage of our history, which is fit by only the people of honesty and courage, sacrifice, statesmanship, and military experience. These qualities are not available in today’s existing…”

Al-Awlaki warned against Iran’s military weaponry, saying that it aims at the Sunni Gulf states whose peoples will be the first Iranian targets. “O Sunni scholars, what is your plan to resist the spread of apostasy that is sweeping the region from Iran to Yemen? … Are your guardians capable of resisting Iran? Iran spends its oil revenues to build its army, and your guardians spend money to protect and guard the American occupation from the blows of the mujahideen.”  “The situation today is as it was during the right people in the time of Jesus - the Roman tyrant left no room for opposition, Jews and their rabbis lowered themselves, so Jesus went out of this situation and was followed by only young people,” said al-Awlaki who outlined two cases that “ need to be resolved otherwise we will fail.” The first one is removing the “rulers.” “… the Umah can not move forward - one inch – unless they are removed [head of Arab states].”

The second issue, according to al-Awlaki, is killing Americans. “Do not consult anyone in the killing of Americans. Fighting the devil does not need an advisory opinion, it does not need advice, nor does it need “Istikharah,” a supplicant asking God for proper guidance. They [Americans] are the party of the devil. Fighting them is the obligation of the time. We reached with them the point that ‘either us or you “- we are opposites that do not meet. They want something that cannot be accomplished without our doom. So, it is a battle of destiny- the battle of Moses and Pharaoh, and a battle of right and wrong,” al-Awlaki concluded.
