First Armored Division (FAD) personnel, participants in a 15-day sit-in in front of the Foreign Ministry building, have threatened to march with open chests to the front gates of the FAD if their demands - that defected general and FAD commander Ali Mohsin al-Ahmar be dismissed and put on trial for crimes against themselves and the Yemeni people in general – are not met.
The FAD personnel also demanded that they receive overdue wages from Ali Mohsen.
Lieutenant Ibrahim al-Khaledi told the Yemen Observer, “We demand the dismissal of the criminal Ali Mohsen, the dues we have been deprived of, and we demand what is right for the martyrs and the wounded.” Al-Khaledi said they are appealing to President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi and all human rights organizations to quickly intervene to meet their demands. Otherwise, he said, they will escalate the situation.
“We will and march to the gates of the First Armored Division with open chests and we will enter our camp,” he added.
The protesting personnel confirmed that they had already delivered demand letters to President Hadi and concerned officials, but added that they had yet to receive a response.
“I call upon the Yemeni people to stand with us and help us to withdraw the tyrant Ali Mohsen and also to return our wages,” said Sergeant Ismail Mohammed Ahmed.
Many of the protesting personnel received injuries in wars with Houthis in Sa’adah governorate, in the north of Yemen, only to discover that their wages were not forthcoming.
“I sustained a shrapnel injury to my back…but nobody cares about us,” said al-Khaledi. “We decided to make the sit-in and raise our voice and demands in this period because everything is settled now and we have new President and new government,” said Ahmed, “We will not leave this place until our demands met or we will escalate it to the maximum, no matter how much we die.”
