The local authorities in the northern Kosher directorate reported on Sunday that a mine exploded in their district, leading to the death of Mabrok Yahia Moedh Riban. Once again a civilian fell victim of a personnel mine, underscoring the need for al-Houthis and all other militias in the area to end the new mining trend as they only endanger civilian population, mostly children.

Throughout at least three Northern provinces, Sa’ada, al-Jawf and Hajjah, armed groups are utilizing mining technique to mark and protect territories regardless of the collateral damage and the loss in lives.

Rights groups have urged the government to take actions as they warned that the death toll was rising out of control with more civilian deaths due to combat since the beginning of the year than in the past two years.

Al-Houthis group which has been asked on countless occasions to hand over their mine map are still refusing to comply, arguing it would give them a logistic disadvantage against their enemies.
