Dispute on the First Meeting of Yemen Government Dialogue with Youth

Minister of Human Rights and President of the Ministerial Committee to communicate with Youth, Horiyah Mashoor, has accused political parties to cause chaos during the inauguration ceremony to start dialogue with youth, which was held in Sana’a on Sunday morning.

Mashoor said that number of youth who belong to the revolution coalitions within the Change Square, as well as supporters of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, have been caused the creation of chaos that was almost plaguing the inauguration ceremony of the dialogue with youth.

 She described what happened as “provocative act” and said that the youth of the revolution supposed to sit in front of the cultural center gates, without resorting to prevent the Prime Minister, the Ministers and the Ambassador of the European Union from entering to the ceremony hall. 

 “Youth is right when they demonstrated in a rejection of the dialogue because their demands are realistic like the right of the martyrs and the wounded and achieve the goals of the revolution, but we are facing many difficulties and we have bear the unbearable to bring Yemen to safety,” said Mashoor.

Mashoor noted that the behaviors of the some Youth who used violence and prevent officials from entering the hall of the Cultural Center, is unjustified for their demands.


“It is a dangerous curve in the expression of their right,” she added. The speech of Afra’a Al-Jabori who represented youth in the ceremony, disturbed representatives of the former regime, pushed them to go up to the stage and prevent her from completing her speech.

“Their intervention and prevention was undesirable,” she added. The Prime Minister, Mohamed Salem Basindwah managed to calm the situation inside the hall after delivering a compromise speech, said Mashoor, noting that the inauguration ceremony completed most of its programs.

 Mashoor denied that the Committee excluded youths of the squares, saying that the ministerial committee are going to do a number of workshops and meetings, individual and collective with all the components of youth in the squares, as well as through the media. “It is difficult to bring all of the squares youth to debate with them,” she added.


The yard of the Cultural Center in Sana’a witnessed on Sunday an altercation and hands clash between youth supporters of the revolution and others loyal to the former regime in the first meeting held by the Ministerial Committee to communicate with youth, in the presence of the President of the Government of National Unity and the number of ministers and the European Union Ambassador in Sana’a.

The protests erupted early Sunday morning was carried out by dozens of protestors of Change Square in Sana’a at the outer gate of the Cultural Center after being prevented from entering because they didn’t receive invitations to participate in the meeting.

So, they prevented the participants from entering the meeting hall, prompting Prime Minister Basindwah and a number of officials to enter from the back gate. Inside the hall, a number of youth boycotted the speech of Mashoor in the inauguration ceremony and caused banged and chaos that forced the minister to leave the podium.

Following that, some participants attacked the activist Afra’a al-Jabori after her attack, in her speech, the former regime and demanded the prosecution of all participants in the killing of protesters in Change and Freedom Squares. Security forces tried to intervene to resolve the clash between participants who attacked al-Jobori and participants belong to the revolution youth. 


 Samia Al-Aghbari, female journalist and activist, was there and witness to all what happened. “It was a failed day par excellence,” she said.

“The chaos was clear since the beginning, and all participants were claiming that they represent the youth of the squares,” said Al-Aghbari.

“We are supposed to negotiate with those who refuse the dialogue, sit down with them and listen to them. Some members of the Ministerial Committee dealing even those who represent the youth and squares according to mediation, relationships, this was the result!!!”
