The Southern Movement Supreme Council and the Southern Retired Military Personnel Association in Aden staged a protest for the 41st anniversary of establishing the Southern Army last Saturday.

According to local sources, thousands of the Movement supporters, as well as many of the Disengagement factions, started gathering at al-Hashimi Square early in the morning and walked in several areas of the province as they were raising the Southern flag and photos of Southern martyrs.

Sources said the protesters started marching after an oratorical festival was conducted and attended by Head of the Supreme Council Hassan Ba’oum and former ambassador to Syria Ahmed Abdullah al-Hassani.

On the other hand, thousands of people in Hadramout province walked in Mukkalah city in the evening last Saturday for this 41st anniversary, starting from Beliquis Bridge in al-Sharaj area in the city, as they were raising the Southern flag and photos of Southern martyrs as well as the photo of former Yemen’s South president Ali Salem al-Beedh, local sources said.  Sources said the protesters started marching after an oratorical festival was conducted and attended by Head of the Southern Movement in Hadhramout Ahmed Mohammed Bamo’alim and by Deputy of the Southern Movement in Shabwah province Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Ba’oudhah.

Meanwhile in Sana’a, the Secretariat of the Yemeni Socialist Party (YSP) expressed in a press release yesterday its surprise at the official silence. The Secretariat said it has not yet found any explanation to such a silence at the recurring attempts for assassinating the YSP national leaders.

The press release read as follows:
“The Secretariat of the YSP is strongly surprised at the official silence for which we have not found any explanation in terms of the repeated attempts for assassinating the national leaders of the members of our party, the Yemeni Socialist Party - one of the parties of the political equation, which topped the struggle for change, the peaceful solution in the country.

Those seditious campaigns using murder and assassination to further their cause included a large number of cadres and senior leaders of the YPS party: Dr. Aidaroos al-Naqeeb, member of the Political Bureau and the Parliament, and Dr. Mohamed al-Mikhlafi, member of the YPS Secretariat and Legal Affairs Minister, Dr. Wa’ed Badeeb, member of the Political Bureau and Transport Minister.

And after all, the repressing criminal attempts reached the highest figure in the pyramid of the party’s leadership, the Secretary General, Dr. Yassin Saeed Noman- the national figure that is and has always been the most instrumental in the process of change and the ongoing process of peaceful transition in the country.”
