According to the party website, GPC appealed to the President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the Government of National Unity Mohammed Salem Basindwah to maintain the symbolic and historical torch for to the revolution of 26th September and spark it this year in its usual place in Tahrir Square; where the revolution of 26th September had began in 1962.
In its statement, GPC considers relocation of the torch to another place as irreverence and deny to the principles and objectives of the revolution, and a betrayal of the martyrs blood.
GPC confirmed that it had cleared the arena that used for lighting the torch ceremony weeks ago in anticipation of the historic event to announce that it has ordered o remove the rest of the tents in al-Tahrir Square within the next hours.
It is a tribute to the revolution of the 26th of September that represents a historic turning point for the emancipation of the people of Yemen and the liberation of the obnoxious rule and trinity of ignorance, poverty and disease, freedom from foreign colonialism, and the real beginning of a unified Yemen on May 22, 1990. GPC rejected any justification for transferring the torch to anywhere else whatever the justification. It appealed to local authorities in the capital and the Ministry of Defense and the Presidency of the General Staff to assume their historic responsibility to spark the torch in its natural place, Tahrir Square. The celebration committee for the revolutions of September 26 and October 14, said that they moved the torch to another unknown destination, after GPC supporters refused to lifting their tents.
