Two Ministers and three female candidates top governors elections list

Since the start of receiving the candidates applications for the governors elections, 132 applications were received in the different governorates, according to the Deputy Minister of Local Administration Khalied al-Akwa, More than 20 applications have been received for the post of the mayor of the capital Sana’a and more than 20 persons have been nominated for the post of the governor of Sana’a.

 Also, there have been two ministers and two women who have submitted their candidacy applications for the posts of governors. The Minister of Civil Service Hamoud Al-Soufi was reported being nominated as a candidate for the post of Taiz Governor.  There were also two other women and three professors have also presented their nomination applications for the same post. The two female candidates were Dr. Nagiba al-Arigi and Rahma al-Shara’abi.

 According to the governors election’s law, the candidates should resign from their current posts once they have won the elections. They also have to stop practicing their current posts and submit to their bosses in which they have to appoint their deputies to occupy their jobs until the end of the elections so as to avoid using their authorities to affect on the elections process .

 More applications are expected to be received until the deadline of receiving applications on May 8.  Meanwhile the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abul Kareem al-Arhabi received the ambassadors of the donor countries in Sana’a last Monday and briefed them about the governors elections process. The EU Commission’s office in Sana’a had expressed support to the governors elections and pledged to observe the elections.
