The penal appeal court specializing in state security cases reduced the five year imprisonment sentence against the American Embassy attacker to three years.   The court, presided over by Judge Mohammed al-Hakimi and with the membership of judges Najib al-Faqih and Musid al-Omisi, accepted the timely appeal by the suspect and altered the ruling to three years imprisonment, starting on the date of the suspect’s detention. The court also approved the second point of the primary court’s verdict of confiscation of the seized items.   The court also issued a five year imprisonment decision against Saleh Alawi for shooting at the American Embassy in December 2006.   In a session in last April, the prosecution charged Khalid Saleh al-Amari, with attacking a group of people at the American Embassy. He was also charged with delimitation of the American Embassy, shooting at it and damaging doors and windows.

The convict confessed that he used to have an idea of carrying out an offensive against the American Embassy after listening to tapes urging for jihad against the infidels. He added that he bought a weapon from Jahana fire arm market that he used to attack the embassy after midnight when the streets are empty.   The investigation records showed that the suspect felt frustrated when he was denied a visa to Saudi Arabia. He stole money from his father’s exchange place at Zanjibar city. The tape records he used to listen to enraged him against the American actions in Iraq, Afghanistan and because of the aid they provide to Israelis, making him think that the death at the American Embassy is a jihadist action which will offer him a chance for martyrdom.
