YEMEN - The ministerial committee in charge of overseeing the operation of the Marib gas power plant has recently approved the executive plan for the plant’s operation.  As a result, the plant will begin trial operations beginning this Saturday.

The original agreement to begin the first phase of the power plant in January 2009 was signed in 2005 by the Yemeni government and relevant companies.  Since then the plant’s operation has been delayed several times, including a scheduled start of of experimental operations at the end of August, which has been pushed back to this Saturday.

The new executive plan stipulates that certain measures be carried out during the plant’s experimental operation, including the installation of strategic valves to the existing 12-inch LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) line.

Furthermore, the plan also includes a number of technical projects concerning the station’s generating units’ operations. These projects are set to continue until the plant’s operations are handed over to the Electricity Corporation. The plant’s full capacity, before the addition of a third generator, is expected to reach a total of 341 MW.

Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Mujawar stressed the Electricity Corporation’s and the Safer Company’s full commitment to the executive plan and its deadlines, affirming that the Cabinet and the ministerial committee will be constantly following up on the plan’s implementation.
