The 2010 Persons of the Year, Ahmed al-Sonidar and Radhia Ehsan Allah, were recently honored at the third anniversary of the founding of the Progress and Advancement Forum in Sana’a.
The Forum’s Chairperson, Yahya Mohammed Abdullah Saleh, took the opportunity of the ceremony to express the collective gratitude the forum feels for the two. “Ahmed al-Sonidar and Radhia Ehsan Allah deserved more than what this honor represents. Our recognition of their activities only provides recognition for part of their long efforts, which are full of achievement and sacrifice,” said Yahya.
“There are many who profess to be enemies of Yemeni Unity. Currently Yemen suffers greatly under the strain of such outlaws. Yet we have taken the path of democracy,” Yahya added.
As part of the ceremony, Ra’awfa Hasan presented the biography of each of the honored guests, Ahmed al-Sonidar and Radhia Ehsan, providing additional background to their outstanding achievements. Hasan al-Lawzi, the Minister of Information, took the opportunity to highlight the importance of the Forum.
“If I had written the speech that I am to present today, it may have been succinctly articulate. However, passion and compassion enables one to express their true feelings with greater efficacy in such meetings,” explained al-Lawzi.
He continued, “The attributes of devotion and loyalty are here with this group. This distinguished national institutions represents a commitment to national figures. We have carefully chosen those who should be so recognized; this is a particularly pleasant, yet difficult job. These two characters have scarified for their beloved homeland, continuing until this day without ceasing. They have carried their message to the country without thought to themselves. They are well deserving of this honor.”
