A wide diversity of different people bid farewell to the director of the British Council, Elizabeth White, who is leaving for Damascus after spending three years in Yemen.
British Ambassador to Yemen, Tim Torlot, praised the tremendous works that were done by the British Council. “All activities I opened and more is a real credit not only to Elizabeth White but also to the superb group of people that work with her as well,” said Torlot. He said that Elizabeth’s role in that has been the creative spirit to provide the leadership, sense of humor with her extraordinary social skills to bring together such a wide diversity of different people. “The number of the people that I see here is a witness to the enormous efforts that you have made in your work. Thank you very much and we will miss you,” added Torlot.
Elizabeth thanked the British Ambassador for his kind words. “Thank you to every one of you for these three years that I spent in your company and in all the projects that we have worked on together. Thank you for the warm welcome,” said Elizabeth White. “My colleague, Michael White, who is replacing me in this job as the director of the British Council is very lucky and I envy him being here at the beginning of his three or four years here in Yemen. I hope and I am sure that he will have as fulfilling, as rewarding, as interesting as compelling time as I had here,” added White.
Those who work with Elizabeth expressed their sadness at how much they will miss her. Edrees Al Qadasi, Projects Manager: Marketing & Information said, “Elizabeth has never failed to amaze us and exceed our expectations. Whom should I talk about; Elizabeth the Director, Elizabeth the friend, Elizabeth the sister, Elizabeth the benevolent, Elizabeth the sensible, Elizabeth the best example of management we ever met.” Nawaf Shamsan, Assistant Director said, “Working with more than one entity, I have not come to see any manager or director triumph the heart of all the employees like Elizabeth. She is a truly inspiring manager”. Salah Salem, Regional Arts Manager said, “Elizabeth is the epitome of someone who’s crossed all culturally-based borders and boundaries to find a home away from home.
