girls outdo boys
It is not only this year, but just as in past three years the girls achieved the top rank in the high schools around the state. They obtained 60% of the top ten classes in the sciences section and more than 80% for the arts section.

The Ministry of Education announced the general secondary school certificate’s results at 75.8% success rate. The Education Minister said the average success rate is at 75.8 % (scientific 77.1% and arts 70.4 %).
The Minister said that the results are accessible through the traditional telephone number. About 203,390 candidates sat for the exam this 2007- 2008 school year.
In a related issue the Ministry of Education decided to reject the results of 1,969 students at the scientific and arts sections, because they committed examination’s misconducts, including identity fraud, evading, and cases of aggression and threatening actions.

Over five million students went to their schools last Saturday marking the 2008-2009 school year. Dr. Abdulsalam al-Jofi the Minister of Education said that more than 600,000 children joined the basic education this year, ensuring that his Ministry finished all arrangements for the school year, regarding the school book, the teachers and the other school accessories.
Al-Jofi turned the attention to the fact that it is the first time that one billion YR school operational budget has been apportioned for schools. A school bag lunch project is also apportioned within the food program, targeting 150,000 students in the rural governorates.
Al-Jofi said that the Ministry’s decision to start the school year in Ramadan is not an arbitrary one as it is rumored. It is based on the logical justification stipulating that the school year should be not less than 184 days with Fridays and the national holidays exempted.
In case of the decrease of the school year days, the minister said that the Yemeni educational system will be incompatible with international standards. He added that the school calendar took into consideration different country’s standards.
