CSO issues award winning stat booklet

The Central Statistical Organization (CSO) has issued their recent “Yemen in Figures 2006” booklet, which aims to provide indicators concerning nearly all activities in Yemen for researchers, businessmen, donors and all other interested persons. 

This publication is characterized by its simplicity and accurate selection of all indicators, to make it easy for users seeking general knowledge and information concerning the economic and social situation of the Republic of Yemen. 

The booklet contains many social and economic indicators based on the latest statistical data concerning all facets of Yemen. The CSO has taken certain procedures in making this booklet, and has re-grouped some indicators to be consistent and common. This is also to avoid errors and shortcomings in the available data. The production of the booklet was supervised by chairman of CSO, Dr.Amin M. Mohie al-Din, professor of Economics at Sanaía University.

The booklet contains 70 pages, and starts with general information about the country, including its location, borders, its regions, natural characteristics, environment and islands. The booklet also contains national holidays, environmental indicators, discussion about domestic and regional earthquakes, availability of sanitation services, subscribers and beneficiaries and solid waste quantity. The booklet offers information on Yemen’s population, and is divided into a number of catagories. This is in addition to vital statistics, which includes total registered births and deaths for both males and females.

There are also indicators concerning the labor force, investments, agricultural and fisheries, industry and energy, construction and building, telecommunication, prices indices, finance and banking, education, health and media.  

The booklet makes all necessary information handy and easy to read through the use of tables and a variety of charts and indicators. The booklet data contains information about Yemen in all sectors from 2005-2006. 

The publication was awarded first prize for the best statistical work of 2007 during the First Arabian Statistical Conference, held in Oman on November 12, 2007.

The names of the working staff that helped produce this booklet were Dr.Abdul-Hakeem al-Obaid, Deputy of CSO for supervision and following-up; Mohammed Saíeed Biraíya, Deputy Assistant for Economic Statistics Sector, Ali Abdul-rahman al-Jahdri, Deputy Assistant for Population Statistics Sector for final revision and finally the assistant team for revision and translation included  s Mohammed Ghotheem, executive Manager of Statistical Yearbook Improvement Project; Sameera Saleh al-Jwazi, Nabeela Ali Helal, Radhwan al-Sayanni and Majed Ali Ahmed al-Tashi.
