MTN launched its 21-day campaign in many governorates around the republic to provide social services to the community. The campaign, which will last until the 22nd of June 2009, includes more than 800 MTN employees working in 17 service projects funded and supervised by the company.

The campaign also aims to include the private sector in local development and support of the state’s efforts in this field, especially with regard to sustainable development. It also includes mobilizing youth in helping to protect the environment, keeping mosques clean, and painting some schools, as well as traffic awareness and fighting malaria.

MTN has dedicated a pressroom where it showcases its various activities including a photography and multimedia show.

Among the activities of its 21-day social services campaign, MTN recently organized an environmental awareness campaign in the Old City of Sana'a. The event included an educational session on cleanliness, hygiene in the streets, and in the Great Mosque. When the volunteers concluded their work, they donated to the Mosque's personnel a number of vacuum cleaners, brooms and other cleaning tools.

Before starting the event, the Representative of the Historical Cities Presentation Authority, Ahmed al-Wareth, thanked MTN for its social contributions, especially in the context of environmental awareness and city maintenance, and called on other companies in the private sector to follow suit.

Ahmed Read, MTN Yemen's Executive Director, explained the purpose of the event and added that the campaign is still ongoing and would include health, sports, cultural, educational, and social events. He said that soon, company volunteers will help to pave grounds in parks and trim trees.
