Sadiq Ameen Abo Ras, Deputy Prime Minister for Interior Affairs, affirmed during the opening of the of Regional Conference on Yemeni workforce- held on Movenpick Hotel on 22nd and 23rd of February - the importance of the existence and qualifying Yemeni workforce in order to meet the needs of Gulf Labor Market.

The conference ended up producing results which chiefly focused on the importance of making Higher Council for Yemeni workforce so that it could handle duty of planning and preparing programs that assure to qualify Yemeni workforce. In addition, the conference highlighted the importance of marketing Yemeni workforce instead of Asian one. Moreover, they agreed on that Yemeni workforce must have an annual rate within Gulf Market.

“We have all seen that the presented papers in this conference personalize the problem and provide suggestions. Our brothers in Gulf Cooperation Council spoke in a clear and transparent manner that put our officials in front of the reality and responsibility. Dr. Mohammed Musfer said that he knows accurately some Yemeni officials who go to Gulf countries to ask for financial assistance as he said and added we have never heard that Yemeni officials demand from Gulf countries to accept Yemeni workforce in order to work for them,” Dr. Mohammed Salih Qara’a stated, a member in Shura Council. “Dr. Musfer, moreover, stated that Asian embassies and governments who have laborers in Gulf Countries, pay attention and put into account their laborers’ rights. They just contact and demand the officials in Gulf Countries to achieve their rights and prerogatives. In my point view, I think that our embassies abroad must primarily pay attention of their people as part and parcel of their duty,” he added.

Almost all the participants agreed that the problem can not be solved unless there is a political decree. “This is all about governments and what are the serious solutions they take towards such problem,” said Dr. Qara’a. “No doubt that the efforts exerted have an impact on the process but that need a political decree in the first place,” said Ali Salih Obad, Advisor of the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor.

One of the participants from Gulf Countries, Mohammed Musfer, frankly spoke about the identity crisis which Gulf Countries experienced. “Gulf Countries undergo identity crisis in education, culture and security and all that because of the existence of foreign workforce. We have to replace this foreign workforce with Arabic one in order to make them deal properly with environment as Yemeni workforce did in building the infrastructure in Gulf Countries in the recent past,” said Dr Mohammed Musfer, a participant from Gulf side.
