The Sheraton Sana’a Hotel organized a charity dinner in support of UNICEF projects last Wednesday. Many guest from the public and private sector attended.

Mr. Mazen Kaddoura, the General Manager of the Sheraton Sana’a Hotel said that this initiative from the Starwood Hotels & Resorts started 14 years ago to give a chance to their guests to make contributions to support children in need of education.

Road to Awareness is a program supporting UNICEF’s education work in the Middle East and North Africa. Kaddoura said that Starwood Hotels supports this program because they believe that education helps individuals make genuine choices about the kinds of lives they wish to lead.

Starwood’s funding is going to help UNICEF improve conditions and situations in different schools, helping to guarantee that schools are safe and in friendly environments where children can realize their full potential.

Donations raised by Starwood associates aim to support schools because they believe that education transforms lives and breaks the cycle of poverty that so many children are caught in. Support for the Road to Awareness program was initiated to ensure that children have access to quality education creating a ripple effect of opportunity that impact generations to come. However, there are currently more than 100 million children worldwide out of school. Children are often denied the right to education because they are poor, orphaned or simply because they are girls or live in a remote rural area.
