A walk in the Old City of Sana’a two hours before the Iftar time, one sees big crowds infront of shops that sells what people call Sana’ani deserts or sweets.

The shops in Bab Al-Yemen received crowds of people through Ramadan’s days.

It is popular for buying the best Ramadan sweets in Sana’a.

 The reason behind the interest of people in these sweets is its incredible taste that melts the sadness and brings great joy.

There are some Sana’ani sweets like Bent al-Sahen, al-Rawani, Kunafa, alAoamah, Kata’ef, Sha’wbiah and Baklawah.

  Bab al-Yemen is known to have the best shops of Sana’ani sweets in Sana’a like the shops of Saleh Kaydamh and Shamiah. Sana’a has several sweet shops distributed across the capital, but people always headed to buy from Bab al-Yemen shops.

Saleh Kaydmah, the owner of Kaydmah shops for Sana’ani sweets, said his sweets received crowds of people during Ramadan months. “We have laboratories at home to make these sweets under professional expertise,” he said.

“In Ramadan, people came to buy our sweets in many large turnouts, but we got less people in other months,” said Kaydmah. “People like to buy them because they are very yummy and light to the stomach.”

Ali Mohammed Shamiah, owner of Shamiah shops for sweets in Bab al-Yemen, said most of the people came to buy Rawani sweets. “We made Rawani from pasta and some eggs with sugar. Rawani is the king of sweets and everyone likes it in Ramadan,” he said.

 These sweets serve after Iftar meal and give kind of relief and extra flavor in each house meals.

 “I always came to buy these testy sweets from here because they are very delicious and appetizing,” said Mohammed Mahdi Tamish, a big fan of Sana’ani sweets.

 “These sweets make me feel I’m really living the Ramadan atmosphere.”

It became as an addiction for most of Yemeni people. “I can’t eat or imagine my meal meal if there are no Sana’ani sweets in our Iftar,” said Mohammed Abdullah, a big fan of Sana’ani sweets. “I’m addicted to it and l love it.”
