UNICEF along with the Road to Awareness campaign held a Gala event at the Sheraton in Sana’a last Thursday, September 20, 2012.
The fundraising event’s proceeds will go to the al-Rahma foundation based in Sana’a, and a UNICEF education project.
The Sheraton Hotel hosted the poolside event as a thank you to the sponsors who contributed to the $26,100 in donations made. said Sheraton Sana’a GM Mazen Kaddoura “Despite the existing safety and security concerns in Sana’a, the US Community Service and Sheraton Hotel decided to move forward as planned so we don’t deprive children in need from improving their educational circumstances.
This event would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors: MTN Yemen, Grand Motors, YLNG, Total E & P Yemen, Yemen Catering Service, Coca Cola, Abdul-Majeed Elsaadi Group, Ahmad Jamaan Trading, El Itihad Advertising, Turkish Airlines, Max, Grand Technology, Emierates Airlines, and Yemen Observer.” said Sheraton Sana’a GM Mazen Kaddoura.
The money raised through Starwood’s “Road to Awareness” campaign, which includes local fundraising initiatives in hotels throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as an annual fundraising bike ride, will help tackle these initiatives by giving thousands of the most vulnerable children access to preschool and a chance at a brighter future.
The fifth annual Road to Awareness event will be a four day tour in the climbs of the Tour de France. A portion of the donations will also go to the al-Rahma foundation, a Sana’a based organization that cares for orphans, the money will be used for the purchase of laboratory and computer equipment, as well as other necessities as identified by the orphans.
