On International Press Freedom Day, the Ray newspaper honored its first editor and establisher, Mohammed Jassar, amid attendance of a number of journalists. Ghamdan al-Yosofi, the paper’s current editor, spoke at the gathering about Jassar’s role in helping many young journalists, who later became distinctive names in the field of journalism.
In acknowledgment was Jassar’s 20+ years of journalism in Yemen, especially in his progress in the al-Thawrah newspaper’s various divisions and his establishment of the paper’s cultural appendix. His last post in al-Thawrah was the interview section manager. In a statement released by Ray, they considered the gathering as a paper staff’s honorary gesture for the distinctive professional role and his tolerance to those who differ with him in opinion.
In his speech, journalist Hamoud Munasar, commended Jassar’s professionalism, considering the period which he spent with him at Ray paper since 1992 as the best experience in his career. The General Journalists Syndicate’s secretary expressed delight over the honoring, saying that Jassar’s proactive attitude is worthy of being honored. Hamdi al-Bokari, the Syndicate’s board member, praised Jassar’s professional decency over controversy issues throughout his professional life. The vice general secretary of Abna’ al-Yemen League Party highlighted Jassar’s contribution to the creation of the ethical professional awareness, among the media community.
