Ibn al-Amir basic school in Sana’a old city held a party last Thursday to honor its distinguished teachers and students.
The students of Ibn al-Amir school chanted a number of the traditional Sana’ani songs and performed a number of short plays and comedy sketches. One of the sketches criticized the insults against the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and urged the public to boycott Danish products. Other sketches dealt with the wrong behavior of students and urged for the protection of school equipment, books and chairs.
The highlight of the party was the performance of two songs chanted by seven year old Ibrahim Hamamah. The audience joined Hamama and sang his chorus with him.
To conclude the party, the distinctive students from grades one to nine were honored as well as the swimming team who won a gold medal in a competition among the capital’s schools. The football team was honored, too, for having achieved the first position among Sana’a’s old city schools.
The educational directorate of the Sana’a old city sponsored the party. The principal of the school, Amta Alrazaq al-Kibsi, thanked the teaching staff for their efforts to improve the educational outcomes in the school. She also thanked the al-Sunidar Trading Group for donating five computers to the school and said that these three pieces will be a seed for establishing a complete computers laboratory wishing that other businessmen and donors would donate more computers that are needed to cope with the new educational developments.

The party was attended by the General Director of Sana’a old city district, Yahya al-Mahdi; the Director of the Educational Directorate of Sana’a old city district, Omar Saif; the General Manager of the Examinations Department of the Ministry of Education, Ahmad al-Nono; two members of the capital’s local council that represents Sana’a old city in the council, Sheikh al-Uzairi and Ahmad Salah; and well known Yemeni businessman, Hasan al-Kaboos; as well as by parents, teachers, and students of the school. Badrudeen Mohammed al-Kibsi, who was honored for holding the first rank among the students of the seventh grade, said he was pleased to be honored and see other students being honored.
“This was the first honoring party held in the school ever since I was in first grade until now,” said Badrudeen.
The seven year old singer Ibrahim Hamamah said he was proud for being a member of the school’s chanting team and for being honored in this party.
Ali Rizq, one of the attending parents, said he was pleased for the new improvements and advancements achieved by the school’s staff under the supervision of the newly appointed principal of the school, Amat al-Razaq al-Kibsi. “This new female principal proved she was much better than the five prior male principals.”
Ibn al-Amir school is one of the oldest schools in Yemen. Many politicians, officials, businessmen players and singers graduated from the school since the September Revolution of 1962.
The school used to be well-known for its football teams whose players went on to play for famous teams, including al-Ahli and al-Wehda club. Most of its players played for the national football teams throughout the past four decades.
