Participants in the exhibition calls for more exhibitions like these to enhance environmental tourism in Yemen that does not have much attention in many tourism agencies programs.
The Save Yemen's Flora and Fauna (SYFF) organization hosted Monday an eco-tourism exhibition for school children and college students in one of the halls of the medical college. The exhibition was sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, and opened by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Development Mr. Omar A. Babelgheith, and the Executive Director Mr. Ahmed A. al-Biel.

CEO for the SYFF Organization Dr. Amal al-Kibsi clarified that the exhibition is being held to give youth the chance to understand their country, and to instill in them awareness about the importance of saving the environment and promoting Eco-tourism in the country. Eco-tourism is a modern idea which rose from the need to conserve the natural and cultural heritage of people and countries, as well as contribute to sustainable development.

She added that the exhibition was divided into three main sections including Soqotra Island, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, and a section dedicated to discouraging the use of Qat. She explained the beauty of Soqotra Island, and how it was nominated as a natural protectorate last year because of its rare beauty and species unique to the island. Species include the Dragon’ Blood tree, some specimens of which are over four hundred years old, the Arabian leopard, the Golden-winged Grosbeak and the Aloe irafensis flower which was discovered by Dr. Abdul-Wali al-Khulaidi.

Dr. al-Kibsi expressed her thanks to Minister of Tourism Mr. Nabeel al-Faqeh

As a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation section, Mr. Mohammed al-Eryani said the Ministry of Irrigation participated in this exhibition to teach youth how to conserve water and protect their environment, and he thanked God that the exhibition successfully delivered its message to a large number of students.

One of the students, Basma Mohammed expressed her happiness at the exhibition’s activities, having seen the beauty of Soqotra Island herself shown through a documentary which also demonstrated Yemen as the root of all civilization.
