Dar al-Salam Participates in Conference to limit the Spread of Small Arms

Dar al-Salam Organization (House of Peace in Yemen) participated in the fourth conference to reduce the spread of small arms weapons which was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from June 14th to the 18th, said Abdulrahman al-Marwani chairperson of Dar al-Salam on Wednesday.
 
He said that participants from Dar al-Salam contributed positively in the conference providing their long term experiences in decreasing the spread of small arms in various Yemeni provinces.
 
The conference is for countries and major international organizations which are active in combating the weapons trade. Dar al-Salam represented all similar civil organizations in Yemen and the Middle East. The conference addressed the following issues:
 
Developing Arms Trade and global standards that ensure that the license transfer of weapons matches the following cases:
 
The dangers due to possible abuse and breach of agreements under the Charter of the United Nations;
 
the possibility of potential danger as it will be used as follows:
 
causing serious violations of international human rights or international humanitarian law;
 
conducting terrorist attacks;
 
committing crimes of violence or organized crime’
 
the negative effect on security or regional stability,
 
causing damage to processes working towards reducing poverty rates and socio-economic development;
 
potential risks resulting from switching arms to be used in any of the previous cases.
 
The organization was represented by lawyer Rashad Naji al-Khader, Abdul-Salam Qasem al-Sharabi and the Administrative Director.
